Rev. Jeffrey Sypole
It is a great pleasure and honor to serve as pastor of Kingswood United Methodist Church. I was appointed here in July 2016. The people have been gracious and loving since my arrival and for that I am very grateful.
I come here after serving three previous appointments in Asheboro, Level Cross/Archdale, and High Point, NC. My calling to the ministry came in 1995 when I was attending Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. As the Lord continued luring me, I eventually applied to Duke Divinity School in 1999 to pursue theological study and was accepted. During my four-year study, I served as a student pastor at Brower’s Chapel in Asheboro. After receiving my Master of Divinity degree in 2003, I served two more years at Brower’s. In 2005, I was assigned to the Level Cross/Ebenezer Charge and served four years. While at that appointment I received Elder Orders in the United Methodist Church. Following that appointment, I served seven years at the Highland/Northwood Charge in High Point. And now here I am at Kingswood in my 19th year of ministry and every moment of it has been a blessing.
Prior to being called to pastoral ministry, I spent over twenty-five years in the hospitality industry. After graduating from the University of Massachusetts with a degree in Hotel, Restaurant, and Travel Administration, I worked for Hyatt Hotels, Stouffer Hotels, Embassy Suites, and Radisson Hotels in New Orleans, Houston, Mobile AL, Boston, and several cities North Carolina.
My wife, Laurie, is the greatest gift God has ever given me. We met in high school and married after graduating college in 1978. She has been my love and my leading supporter. For forty-five years, she has always been my very best friend. We have two wonderful sons and daughter-in-laws and four beautiful grandchildren.
What more can I tell about myself? Well…
My favorite Bible verses:
“Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4)
“For I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13)
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.” (Acts 16:31)
“I am the way, the truth, and the life.” (John 14:6)
My favorite food:
Italian, Asian, and of course, North Carolina BBQ and ribs
My favorite thing to do (besides preaching):
Hanging out with the wife; spending time with the grandkids; and playing golf (tip: never trust a preacher on the golf course)
My favorite TV shows:
Sports, Seinfeld, The Andy Griffith Show, America’s Got Talent, Fox News
My favorite movies:
Forrest Gump, Titanic, A Few Good Men, Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile
My favorite indulgence:
Chips of all kinds, nachos, and coke
My favorite super hero (besides Jesus):
No question – Batman
While there are many things about life that I enjoy, my greatest passion is that people come to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, the Lord and Savior of the world. Life is hard, and it should not be just a life to survive, but a life to thrive. We thrive by immersing ourselves in God’s grace that he freely pours out to anyone willing to receive it. My desire – my mission – is to help people find Jesus for themselves and discover what real life is here and now and for all eternity.
